Valencia city is fine to visit. The Old Town, City of Arts and Science and beach and marina areas were virtually unaffected by last month's flooding.
The city centre had very little rain and no flooding. The disaster pictures you've seen on the news were in other areas of the Valencia region. Apart from some public transport not working, in the city today you wouldn't know anything had happened. Even in the southern city suburbs where some of the worst flooding occurred, there was very little rain and the problems were mainly caused by flash floods, from rain run off in surrounding areas.
You may have also seen terrifying pictures of cars piled up on roads after being washed away in flash flood surges. Some of these were on an approach road several miles south of the city but most of the others were on highways or in towns elsewhere in the region, not the city itself.
Although the city is in good shape and the official mourning period has finished, our hearts go out to all those in the affected areas, many of whom are still clearing up the mess. And of course, our thoughts are with all those that lost their lives. There were far too many and questions will be raised about the governments' emergency alert and response systems.
Traveling around the region outside the city is still being discouraged, as some motorways remain closed and longer distance trains are not operating, but Valencia airport remains fully functional; tourist attractions, hotels, bars and restaurants are open; taxis are plentiful and public transport services are gradually being restored.
The message for visitors is clear: don't cancel anything. Valencia city is open for business and ready to welcome you for a fantastic stay, and by visiting you will be supporting the wider region in its recovery from this natural disaster.
