Valencia Awarded for Design

Valencia has been named as World Design Capital for 2022. The prestigious biennial title was awarded for the city's effective and strategic use of design in public policy and industry.

The designation was announced by the the World Design Organization, last month, and makes Valencia the eighth city to be honoured in this way.

The organisation said Valencia exhibits impressive urban infrastructures directed towards coexisting with the natural and built environment. Their President, Luisa Bocchietto, added, Valencia "clearly demonstrates the effective application of Mediterranean design, of design for change and design as a key reference point to improve citizens' quality of life."

World Design Capitals are designated every two years to award cities that use design to improve economic, social and cultural life. Previous winners include Torino (2008), Seoul (2010), Helsinki (2012), Cape Town (2014), and Taipei (2016), Mexico City (2018). Lille Metropole will hold the WDC title in 2020.
