Explosive festival kicks off

After an explosion in popularity, Arenal Sound kicked off this week for its fifth year in Burriana, about 40 miles (60km) north of Valencia.

Spain's fast-growing festival frequently sells out to a largely Spanish crowd and this year 280,000 people are expected to attend the big party on the beach, according to local newspaper El Mundo.

And in 2014 the Sounders -- as the festival goers are known -- have more days to enjoy music with a special 6 day event that started yesterday and runs through to Sunday, 3 August.

Top international artists are gracing the stage, including Azealia Banks, Placebo, Miles Kane, Biffy Clyro, Crystal Fighters, The Wombats, Bastille and Mando Diao.

There's also a large representation of Spanish bands, with the likes of Russian Red, Sidonie, Leon Benavente, Mishima, Elephants, LA, Bizarre Love Triangle, Izal, Pony Bravo, The Swing Murderer and Iván Ferreiro.
