Botanical Garden

Housing an important botanical ensemble with some 3,000 species of trees and plants, Valencia's Botanical Garden has a vast collection encompassing all continents, including assortments of palms trees, tropical species and cacti.

In addition to being a space of beauty and tranquillity, the gardens are a hub of cultural and educational activity.

Property of the University of Valencia, the gardens are the subject of on-going research encompassing plant diversity, rare species conservation, endemic and endangered Mediterranean flora, and conservation of natural habitats.

TIP! The botanical garden is a wonderful spot where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Have a coffee or take a leisurely stroll around the gardens. A great option for families and garden lovers. Try our VIP tour for an in depth insight to Valencia’s gardens.

The garden also serves as a hub for local events, concerts, exhibitions, workshops and more. We’ll keep you abreast of what’s on during your visit.

History of the Botanical Garden

Founded at a different location in 1567, the original gardens focused on the study of medicinal plants. Over two centuries later, the garden was moved to its present location.

Throughout the nineteenth century botany classes were held at the garden and studies focused on agriculture and plant acclimatisation. The garden suffered a long period of neglect during the twentieth century. However, in 1987 the University of Valencia began a comprehensive restoration project to revive the gardens, which was completed in the year 2000.
