Silk Exchange - La Lonja

The Lonja de la Seda - or Silk Exchange - is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is one of the most famous gothic monuments in Europe.

The first stone was laid the 1492, with construction beginning the following year. Magnificent columns feature in the spacious foyer. The upper floors were originally used as a prison for bad debtors.

Just opposite the Central Market, it has a surface area of 2,000 square metres.

How to get there:

Address - Market Square, 46001 Valencia.

By bus: There are plenty of stops 5 minutes walk from the market. Bus number 7 stops next to the Silk Exchange or walk from Town Hall Square (about 2-minute walk).

By metro: Take the red or green line (3 or 5) to Xativa. With the station behind you, walk to City Hall Square (2 minutes), and continue to the left for a couple of minutes to the Silk Exchange.

By train: Take the train to North Station. Xativa metro station is outside. Follow above directions from the metro station.

From bus station: Take metro (yellow line 1) to Angel Guimera and change to the red line (3) or green (5). Get off at Xativa. From here it is a short 5-minute walk.
